THE OPPORTUNITY Silvus is seeking an Applications Engineer-I who will report to the Senior Applications Engineer on the Sales Engineering team. The successful individual in this role will conduct a wide range of technical activities relating to applications/solutions engineering and customer and sales support. This position works closely with customers and the Sales team to drive product development and be a key component in enabling the development of cutting-edge systems and technologies. The individual in this role is expected to help define and test new products and features, assist customers and the sales team with their technical support requests, perform technical analysis and systems integration duties, and engineer complete solutions to complex problems. This position works closely with internal Engineering teams and provides in-person support with up to 25% travel, both domestic and international. This position is based at Silvus Technologies’ headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles, CA, and is on a hybrid schedule. A minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with other days onsite as needed. The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Design and test complete solutions that solve unique technical problems. Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform product evaluations and field trials for new product features and accessories. Provide comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via phone, online, and in person. Participate in an off-hour, on-call support rotation (on a voluntary or scheduled basis as business needs require) to address critical customer escalations. Work individually and with Engineering teams to support requests via in-house or through field testing and validation. Test and harden existing features through firmware and hardware changes in realistic applications. Support the Sales Engineering team by helping prepare for demonstrations, training, testing, or recreating bugs and issues seen in the field. Create and maintain customer-facing documents and content including manuals, guides, videos, application notes, etc. to support customers and sales more efficiently. Oversee and assist the RMA and Loaner teams by providing guidance, equipment recommendations, and vetting customer requests. Travel requirements – Up to 25% travel to provide in-person engineering support to customers and the sales team, including demos, troubleshooting, system integration, and training. Perform other related duties, of which the above are representative. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field. Proficiency with instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and other radio frequency and data network test equipment and testing. Must possess an ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must to effectively communicate with customers and internally across the entire organization. Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to details. Proficiency with PC office applications and mobile devices. Willingness to travel and work at customer sites. Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts. All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Proficiency with TCP/IP protocol and networking. Experience with operating and testing IP radios/modems. Knowledge of wireless communication systems, radio frequency signal propagation, and digital communication technologies. Experience with testing embedded radio communication systems. Familiarity with Linux. Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or C/C++. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Office environment. Trade shows. Outdoor environment for demos and testing. Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following: Lift equipment up to 50 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing. Walking/Moving in the labs. COMPENSATION: $75,000 - $90,000 / annually The pay range is NOT a guarantee.
