Job Overview
The Director of Programming and Career Success provides strategic leadership, planning, and oversight for all programmatic initiatives at the Onyx Initiative. This role ensures that programs align with the organization’s mission, deliver measurable impact, and meet the needs of the stakeholders served.

The Director of Programming and Career Success leads program development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement while managing staff, partnerships, and reporting. This role works closely with senior leadership to expand program reach, strengthen community engagement, and amplify brand awareness opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive programming strategy aligned with Onyx’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Identify ongoing needs of Onyx Scholars and employer partners, and opportunities to expand or enhance programs.
  • Design innovative programs, initiatives, and services that advance Onyx’s reach and impact.
  • Ensure programs reflect best practices, inclusivity, and measurable outcomes.

Program Management & Operations

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and delivery of all organizational programs and initiatives including, but not limited, to personal and professional development, employer discovery, wellbeing, and recruitment events, as well as Mentorship, Alumni Program and Black Student Association Outreach Programs.
  • Establish clear program goals, performance metrics, and evaluation methods.
  • Monitor effectiveness of all programs and implement improvements based on data and internal and external feedback.
  • Ensure programs operate within established timelines.
  • Spearhead the review and assessment of applications and onboarding for the Onyx Scholars Program.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute external Onyx events.

Collaborations & Relationship Management

  • Liaise with Onyx’s coaching team to provide work-based learning opportunities and support for scholars.
  • Liaise with the Outreach team to build on existing partner relationships and develop new relationships with external organizations to expand employment opportunities for scholars and alumni.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with employer, community, and educational partners, including student-led campus associations, to identify scholar-specific and brand awareness’ programming opportunities.
  • Update a shared calendar with events and facilitate ongoing communication with relevant team members.
  • Collaborate with alumni scholars to identify and support events that elevate the visibility of Onyx and the Onyx Scholars Program.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Contribute insights and feedback to program-related grant proposals.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Establish systems for tracking program outcomes and impact.
  • Use data and insights to inform strategic decisions and program improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, public administration, social sciences, education, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive program management experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and scaling programs with measurable impact.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build partnerships.

Job Type and Compensation

Full-time, remote.

Salary range: $60,000 - $70,000

Our salary range reflects the depth and breadth of skills and experience required for the role.
