Internal Investment Consultant

What You'll Do



As an Internal Investment Consultant, you will play a key role at the intersection of financial services and client success, supporting advisors and clients in achieving their long-term financial goals. This role is ideal for driven individuals looking to contribute to a high-performing team while delivering meaningful impact through client engagement and investment solutions.

  • Provide support for the sales activities of the External Investment Only team mainly from the home office. Focus on finding new advisors nationwide and maintaining current relationships.
  • Develop plans with external investment-only wholesalers to increase sales within each designated territory; support all sales activities.
  • Train and mentor other wholesalers as needed, applying your expertise to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Sell our funds, educate on their availability, and direct the Platform Relationship Management Team towards additional TPA/Platform relationship targets.
  • Position our funds appropriately by comparing investment line-ups and replacing existing positions with our products, ensuring flawless service delivery.
  • Build and sustain connections with sales teams of priority TPA/Platform Relationships and inform others about TPA/Platform relationships.
  • Serve as a resource for home office and external sales teams, providing insights and support to successfully implement sales strategies.
  • Represent Principal Financial Group at industry conferences, networking and building relationships to further our mission.

Who You Are



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 3+ years of related experience required.
  • FINRA licensing required, including the SIE (or equivalent) and Series 7. Series 63 must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated sales acumen and strong knowledge of investment products and funds.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, presentation, and both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to be self-motivated, creative, and proactive in achieving goals.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Salary Range Information



Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)



$50350 - $67450 / year

Time Off Program



Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This position is based out of our Des Moines, IA office and will have a hybrid work arrangement of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
