Position Summary
The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting patient care and ensuring efficient daily operations within the radiation oncology department. This position works closely with physicians, radiation therapists, and nursing staff to facilitate a seamless patient experience, maintain treatment readiness, and uphold the highest standards of safety and care.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, and able to remain calm and professional while supporting patients undergoing complex treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient preparation and rooming for radiation oncology consultations and treatments
  • Assist radiation therapists by preparing patients and treatment areas prior to procedures
  • Accurately document patient information, vital signs, and updates in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Monitor patient condition and promptly report concerns to clinical staff
  • Reinforce patient education, including treatment expectations and side effect reporting
  • Support scheduling functions, including appointment coordination and follow-ups
  • Maintain exam and treatment room readiness, including supply stocking and basic equipment checks
  • Provide compassionate support to ensure patient comfort throughout the treatment process
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support continuity of care

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required 
  • Active and valid Medical Assistant (MA) certification required
  • Active and valid Phlebotomist certification required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Prior experience in radiation oncology preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience in radiation therapy or a related clinical setting strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
