Job Responsibilities:

Position Overview

As an Operations Intern at Magna, you won't just be watching from the sidelines. You will be integrated into the heart of our manufacturing environment, gaining hands-on experience in how a global automotive leader moves products from raw materials to the finished assembly line. This role is designed for a proactive problem-solver who wants to understand the "big picture" of plant operations by rotating through and supporting key functional departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You will provide cross-functional support across four primary areas:

1. Manufacturing Engineering

  • Assist in time studies and process flow analysis to identify bottlenecks on the production floor.
  • Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen events, and Standardized Work).
  • Help update plant layouts and equipment documentation.

2. Production Support

  • Work alongside Team Leads to monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and scrap rates.
  • Assist in troubleshooting daily production issues to ensure hitting shift targets safely.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Participate in root cause analysis for internal non-conformances or customer returns.
  • Conduct floor audits and inspections to ensure products meet Magna's rigorous "World Class Manufacturing" standards.
  • Update Quality Alert documentation and boundary samples.

4. Materials & Warehouse Management

  • Support the logistics team in optimizing warehouse slotting and material flow (Inbound to Outbound).
  • Assist with inventory cycle counts and analyze variances in the ERP system.
  • Coordinate with the "Milk Run" delivery system to ensure the line is never starved for parts.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Operations Management and Leadership, Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing), Supply Chain Management, Communications, or a related field.
  • Mindset: A "safety-first" mentality and a willingness to get your hands dirty on the shop floor.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel is a must); familiarity with AutoCAD or ERP systems (like SAP) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between office staff and floor operators.

Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Currently Attending a College or University

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Proficient Computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Professional Communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience in 3D CAD software (viewing)
  • Experience in script development (JavaScript) a plus

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs
  • Ability to spend a full 8-hour shift on your feet
