Job Summary

Progressive Technology is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Weekend Proofreader – Academic Journals to join our remote editorial support team. This role is ideal for professionals who have a strong command of the English language and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing academic manuscripts, ensuring grammatical accuracy, consistency, and adherence to publication standards before final submission or publication.

As a weekend-based remote position, this role offers flexibility while contributing to the quality and credibility of scholarly publications across various disciplines. The proofreader will collaborate with editors, researchers, and production teams to maintain the highest standards of academic publishing.

Key Responsibilities

Proofread and review academic manuscripts, journal articles, research papers, and editorial content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting accuracy.

Ensure adherence to established academic style guides such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or journal-specific guidelines.

Identify inconsistencies in terminology, references, citations, and formatting.

Verify cross-references, figure captions, tables, and bibliographies for accuracy.

Maintain consistency in tone, formatting, and language throughout the document.

Provide clear feedback or suggested corrections to authors and editorial staff.

Collaborate with the editorial and production teams to meet publication deadlines.

Maintain confidentiality of research materials and manuscripts.

Ensure all content meets academic publishing standards prior to final approval.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Excellent command of written English, including grammar, syntax, punctuation, and style.

Strong proofreading and editing skills with high attention to detail.

Familiarity with academic writing conventions and scholarly publication standards.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple manuscripts simultaneously.

Proficiency with word processing and editing tools such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and track changes features.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Bachelors degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

Minimum 1–3 years of experience in proofreading, editing, academic publishing, or content review.

Experience working with academic journals, research papers, or scholarly publications is highly desirable.

Prior experience in remote editorial or publishing support roles will be considered an advantage.

Working Hours

Part-time weekend role (Saturday and Sunday).

Typical schedule: 6–8 hours per day, depending on workload and publishing deadlines.
