Application Deadline: 06/29/2026 Address: VIRTUAL(R)59 - REMOTE/TELETRAVAIL - ON - BMO Job Family Group: Technology Job Summary The Senior Cloud Engineer is a core member of the Cloud Product Engineering team responsible for designing, building, and operating secure, scalable, and resilient cloud solutions for Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role combines deep hands-on technical expertise with strong enablement capabilities, supporting internal development teams in adopting cloud services efficiently and consistently. The successful candidate will develop AWS based infrastructure patterns, build automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), optimize modern application hosting platforms, and ensure solutions comply with security, governance, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Cloud Architecture & Engineering - Assist with design, build, and maintaining AWS cloud infrastructure solutions using compute, networking, storage, serverless, and managed platform services. - Review and assist with architecting AWS solutions that meet enterprise requirements for scalability, security, governance, and cost efficiency. - Review and maintain reusable cloud patterns, foundational components, and reference architectures. - Support serverless and container-based workloads using AWS-native services. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation - Troubleshoot and maintain infrastructure as code using CloudFormation and CDK for AWS resources. - Review and assist in developing reusable IaC modules and templates to ensure consistency and compliance. - Develop and maintain policy as code using Rego policies and helper functions to enforce security, governance, and compliance standards. - Review and enhance automated controls for provisioning, configuration management, and environmental consistency. Security, Identity & Compliance - Review and maintain authentication and authorization models using AWS IAM, roles, and policies. - Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to conduct design reviews and ensure adherence to regulatory standards. - Review cloud security best practices and secure configuration baselines across AWS environments. Operations, Monitoring & Optimization - Implement and optimize monitoring, logging, and alerting using CloudWatch and related AWS observability services. - Ensure strong operational visibility through traces, metrics, logs, dashboards, and runbooks. - Optimize AWS workloads for performance, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency. - Ensure operational readiness, including backup and recovery considerations. Developer Experience & Cloud Enablement - Partner with software engineering teams to guide cloud onboarding, implementation best practices, and architecture decisions. - Support implementation of PoC/MVP and production-ready AWS solutions. - Promote engineering standards, reusable patterns, and automation-first delivery practices. Required Qualifications - 5-7+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience in production environments. - AWS Serverless - MANDATORY, or expertise in Containers. - Implementation experience (support or DevOps experience is NOT relevant) with several of the below: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, Kinesis, Cognito, Service Catalog, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, EventBridge, S3, RDS, Step Functions - AWS Containers - MANDATORY, or expertise in Serverless. - Implementation experience (support or DevOps experience is NOT relevant) with several of the below: Docker, ECS Fargate, ECR, EFS - Experience with event-driven architecture patterns (SNS/SQS/EventBridge) - MANDATORY. - Scripting knowledge in Javascript/NodeJs/Typescript/Python - MANDATORY (at least one) OR extensive Software Development experience. Preferred Qualifications - AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer, Solutions Architect Associate/Professional). - AWS Deployment - nice to have: CloudFormation CDK Liquibase (Database Schema Management) GitHub Actions / Reusable Workflows - Software Development - nice to have. - Experience in designing and implementing PoC/MVP end-to-end AWS-based solutions - nice to have. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
