Truck Driver, 1st Shift - CDL

Key Responsibilities

CDL Drivers use semi's to move our product between locations or even to our customers. Sometimes, they might need to load/unload the trucks or help in other areas of the facility. CDL Drivers must be safety-minded, observant, and have good attention to detail.

  • Transfers trailers between facilities in truck.
  • Operates yard truck to position trailers to appropriate loading/unloading docks as requested by shipping and receiving departments.
  • Performs daily yard truck and trailer inspections prior to use.
  • Observes and reports equipment or mechanical failures immediately.
  • Maintains accurate logs for all trailers on the yard.
  • Operates a forklift within the plant during non-driving time when loading/unloading trucks or rail cars.
  • When truck is not in operation, employee assists with other duties (EX: drives forklift instructed by manager)
  • Conducts daily inspections of the vehicles at the end of the shift and reports any problems or damages to management.
  • Safely and efficiently operates forklift; performs required daily inspections
  • Reads and understands Bills of Lading and Pick Sheet.
  • Uses daily pick sheet, picks full and partial pallets, wraps pallets when necessary, stages product for loading, checks pallets for accuracy to order
  • Maintains clean and organized aisles and rack storage, consolidates partial pallets when needed
  • Inventories product as needed; labels, sorts, wraps and ties product
  • Communicates with management and maintenance personnel on a timely basis to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
  • Complies with company safety policies and maintains clean and orderly work area.
  • Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

What You Need

MUST-HAVES:

  • Valid Class A CDL

NICE-TO-HAVES:

  • Forklift Certification
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of employees whether individually or in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.
  • Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.

Work Conditions & Physical Environment

  • No overnight travel
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 50 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate controlled environment.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to dust and loud noise.
  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net and food safety related items, is required.
