<p><span style="font-weight: bold">We’re looking for an<span> </span></span><span style="font-weight: bold">Underwriter, Excess Casualty</span></p> <p><br></p> <p>Hamilton Select is looking for an underwriter to join our Excess Casualty team, underwriting a wide array of supported and unsupported excess over General Liability, Employer’s Liability, Automobile Liability, Liquor Liability, incidental Foreign Liability, OCPs, and other coverages for small to medium-sized entities.  </p> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">We prefer to base the position in Richmond, VA, but we will consider a remote working location for appropriately qualified candidates. </span></p> <p><br></p> <p>Hamilton Select is our US excess and surplus lines insurer based in Richmond, Virginia underwriting hard-to-place accounts in the small and middle-market space through an appointed wholesale broker network.</p> <p><br></p> <p> <span style="font-weight: bold">What you will do</span> </p> <ul> <li>Underwrite challenging and complex new and renewal submissions within underwriting guidelines and make sound risk decisions that balance our growth and profitability targets.</li> <li>Negotiate terms and conditions consistent with our coverage-focused underwriting strategies.</li> <li>Market our insurance products through various communications channels and occasional business travel.</li> <li>Develop mutually beneficial partnerships and nurture relationships with our appointed wholesale brokers.</li> <li>Monitor key metrics and ratios with an eye on efficiency and profitability.</li> <li>Assist in training and mentoring of less experienced employees.</li> <li>Participate in special projects and corporate initiatives.</li> </ul> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">What we’re looking for in the role</span></p> <p><br></p> <ul> <li>Proven underwriting experience specializing in Excess Casualty</li> <li>Deep technical knowledge of casualty and other liability lines of insurance</li> <li>Existing relationships within the wholesale broker community and the demonstrated ability to build effective relationships</li> <li>Strong internal and external communication skills, both verbal and written</li> <li>Keen attention to detail, sharp analytical competence, and advanced problem-solving skills</li> <li>Acute focus on customer service to meet and exceed our best-in-class service aspirations</li> <li>Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required, with commensurate work experience considered</li> <li>CPCU designation or other industry coursework preferred, but not required</li> <li>Ability to travel from time to time to promote our corporate interests</li> </ul> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">Conduct Standards</span></p> <p><br></p> <ul> <li>You must act with integrity</li> <li>You must act with due skill, care and diligence</li> <li>You must be open and cooperative with the FCA, the PRA and other regulators</li> <li>You must pay due regard to the interests of customers and treat them fairly</li> <li>You must observe proper standards of market conduct</li> <li>You must act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers</li> </ul> <p><br></p> <p><span style="font-weight: bold">What you can expect from us</span></p> <p><br></p> <p>We offer a vibrant, entrepreneurial, and collaborative culture guided by our values: Be Smart, Be Sensible, Be Open and Be More.</p> <p><br></p> <p>We know if we welcome and respect differences, we’ll attract and retain talent that brings a valuable diversity of perspectives and experience.
