This role supports enterprise and campus networks distributed across North America, EMEA, APAC, LATAM, and remote environments. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience in Wi-Fi, routing, switching, security, and large-scale multi-vendor environments. This engineer will be responsible for architecture, design, deployment, optimization, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management of advanced wireless and wired networks. You will work closely with multi-functional engineering teams, operations, customer care partners to ensure global network reliability, performance, and scalability.<br><br><strong>The day-to-day<br><br></strong>Wireless Engineering<br><br><ul><li>Architect, deploy, and optimize enterprise Wi-Fi networks across global hospitality, campus, and multi-site environments.</li><li>Lead wireless upgrades, site surveys, capacity planning, and RF optimization.</li><li>Manage and support multi-vendor wireless infrastructures including Ruckus, Aruba, Arista, and Cisco.<br><br><br></li></ul>Network Engineering (Routing/Switching/Security)<br><br><ul><li>Design, configure, and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN/SD-WAN architectures.</li><li>Implement and support multi-vendor switching and routing solutions including Fortinet, Ruckus, Arista, Nokia, and Calix.</li><li>Troubleshoot complex global network issues across layers 1–7, including RF, routing, authentication, and application performance.<br><br><br></li></ul>Global Network Operations<br><br><ul><li>Support global deployments, expansions, migrations, and upgrades.</li><li>Provide operational leadership for outages and escalations.</li><li>Maintain resiliency through proactive monitoring, observability, and automation.</li><li>Document standards, playbooks, and network topology for operations teams.<br><br><br></li></ul>Automation & Tooling<br><br><ul><li>Develop scripts to automate configuration, validation, and monitoring (Python, Bash, Ansible preferred).</li><li>Build telemetry dashboards and network health pipelines.</li><li>Implement Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) workflows.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>What You'll Need<br><br></strong><ul><li>Minimum 8 years of experience in wireless, routing, switching, and enterprise network engineering.</li><li>Minimum 3 years in a senior engineering role.</li><li>Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi across at least two vendors (Ruckus, Aruba, Arista, Cisco).</li><li>Strong knowledge of routing/switching including L2/L3 design, STP, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, and EVPN.</li><li>Experience with firewalls, SD-WAN, and security platforms (Fortinet preferred).</li><li>Strong documentation, communication, and leadership skills.</li><li>Ability to travel 40%; domestically and internationally as needed</li><li>Required participation in scheduled on-call rotation.</li><li>US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status.</li><li>Able to work out of our office in College Station, TX as needed<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>What Will Help You On The Job<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience with GPON, XGSPON, DOCSIS, fiber access networks, ONT/OLT provisioning</li><li>Scripting/automation experience (Python, Ansible, APIs).</li><li>Experience designing networks for campus, hospitality, education, retail, or large enterprise.</li><li>Experience with RADIUS/802.1X, NAC, IAM, and zero-trust networking.</li><li>Certifications such as CWNA, CWDP, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or NSE<br><br><br></li></ul><strong> Salary range<br><br></strong>$147,000.00 - $232,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $183,000.00- $274,000.00/ annually<br><br>At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience.
